Traditional animation, also known as cel animation, is a type of animation created using hand-drawn images. The images, or cels, are drawn and then photographed one frame at a time. This type of animation has been used since the early days of animation, and is still used today.
The speed at which traditional animation is produced is determined by the number of frames per second (fps). The more frames per second, the smoother and more realistic the movement appears. However, the higher the fps, the more time and resources it takes to produce the animation.
In traditional animation, the general rule of thumb is to aim for 12 fps. This produces a smooth movement that is still easy to create. At this speed, animators can draw one image per second, which saves them time and resources.
However, 12 fps is not always the best choice. Depending on the type of animation, the speed can be adjusted to produce different effects. For example, if an animator wants to create a slow, dreamy effect, they may use a lower fps. On the other hand, if they want to create a fast-paced, action-packed scene, they may use a higher fps.
Traditional animation is a great way to create beautiful and dynamic animations. By adjusting the speed of the animation, animators can create the perfect effect for their project. The key is to experiment and find the right fps for the right effect.
